Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library Handicap Accessibility Campaign

The Ishpeming Carnegie Public Library has served its community with distinction for over 100 years.

This accessibility and renovation project is necessary in order for the library to continue to provide quality services and create an accessible educational & cultural environment for all of its patrons.

The library is a principal municipal institution that serves the entire community. The current facility is not handicap accessible and ADA compliant. There is also no proper space to house the library’s local historical books and documents.

In 2010 the city of Ishpeming hired the engineering firm OHM to complete an accessibility study. The study recognized ways by which the library can become handicap accessible and ADA compliant, while at the same time maintaining the library’s historic integrity.
